As 1754 is drawing to a close, tensions between the French and the British on Canada's Acadian shore are reaching a fever pitch. Seamstress Sylvie Galant and her family—French-speaking Acadians wishing to remain neutral—are caught in the middle, their land positioned between two forts flying rival flags. Amid preparations for the celebration of Noël, the talk is of unrest, coming war, and William Blackburn, the British Army Ranger raising havoc across North America's borderlands.

As summer takes hold in 1755 and British ships appear on the horizon, Sylvie encounters Blackburn, who warns her of the coming invasion. Rather than participate in the forced removal of the Acadians from their land, he resigns his commission. But that cannot save Sylvie or her kin. Relocated on a ramshackle ship to Virginia, Sylvie struggles to pick up the pieces of her life. When her path crosses once more with William's, they must work through the complex tangle of their shared, shattered past to navigate the present and forge an enduring future.

The inspiring true tale of young siblings who loved to make stories—and grew up to be among English literature's finest writers. A picture book for fans of Mary Who Wrote Frankenstein.

Many years ago, the four motherless children of the Brontë family — Charlotte, Branwell, Emily and Anne – lived in a windswept house by the moors with their father. Although their lives were often filled with sadness and their world was only as large as the distance they could walk, their INNER worlds were bound only by their imaginations. Hungry for stories, these children devoured novels and poetry, history and fables. And with the gift of a group of toy soldiers, they were inspired to make their own stories, and their own tiny books... a passion that would last them a lifetime.

A moving and atmospheric story about the power of imagination, the joy of storytelling and the love of books, The Little Books of the Little Brontës will enchant both those who love these literary sisters and those who are learning about them for the first time. Includes an author's note, timeline of the Brontës' lives and a fun craft with instructions on creating your own little book.

A single mitten is excluded by a matching pair in this endearing picture book about friendship, belonging and the pressure to “match.” For fans of The Day the Crayons Quit.

Dotty and Other Dotty are a matching set of mittens. When another mitten, Stripes, loses her partner and becomes a single mitten, they don't feel the need to include her. She doesn't "match" them, so she is banished to the dark, lonely pocket of the Little Girl who owns them. Before long, however, Dotty loses her partner, and now she doesn't match the reunited pair of Stripes and Other Stripes, who in turn banish her to the pocket. "YOU don't match!" they tell her.

When the Little Girl, who has been listening to their conversations, weighs in with a huge question ("Why do you have to match?"), the mittens are shocked. Then comes their realization that "matching" often means leaving someone out. This prompts the Little Girl to break a fundamental rule of fashion so that individual mittens (and maybe even socks! or shoes!) can be themselves - and everyone can belong.

A warm and fuzzy story with lots of laughs, this latest picture book from Linda Bailey explores what it feels like to be excluded and included and celebrates one-of-a-kindness!

"A wonderfully claustrophobic tale of obsession and self-delusion." —Kirkus Reviews

Dorothy Fiske, eighty-three, adores movie stars, jewelry, murder mysteries, and men. At twenty-five, inspired by Judy Garland and Angela Lansbury, she moved to Los Angeles from a religiously strict Midwestern home. Despite the glamour, Dorothy, heartbroken, was childless. She blamed her sweet, unambitious husband, Eugene, claiming his sperm was weak, but Dorothy knows the truth.

Ruth, a sixty-six-year-old home health aide, fears eviction from her LA apartment due to her unusual, antisocial behavior. Previously fired from a nursing facility for residents dying under her care, Ruth targets Dorothy, a widow from a wealthy family in Pacific Palisades, California. Lonely yet prideful, Dorothy hires Ruth as a "lady's maid." Ruth accepts the position and masterfully entwines herself into Dorothy's life because she wants to live in Dorothy's house, alone.

The Palisades is a deliciously spun psychological suspense brimming with dark humor in which two women develop a peculiar relationship amid a miasma of Ruth's disturbing memories and Dorothy's pervasive delusions of old Hollywood. Poverty and privilege mingle, companionship turns bizarre, and identity is questioned as the women desperately try to fulfill their shared yearning for motherhood.

The enthralling story of three unforgettable young adults living on the cusp of great change in early 20th-century Mongolia. A captivating, beautiful saga from debut novelist Erin Jamieson about having dreams, finding love, and learning to survive in a harsh, ever-changing place.

In the winter of 1917, Bolormaa is introduced to the man she is to marry on her eighteenth birthday, over mutton stew and steaming buuz. She has spent her entire life in the Gobi Desert, living a nomadic life with her family, always moving with their animals in search of grazing lands. Reading about other places in a tent school, she dreamed of another sort of life. But now, her education is finished, and her future seems to be laid out before her like the colorful rugs in the family’s ger.

Ganbaatar grew up under the vast, blue-gray, Mongolian sky, the protective arm of his mother, and the withering gaze of his father. He has been a good son and a steady hand, working on the land with the herds, often feeling that he was meant for something different—if only he had the courage to reach for it.

When Aisin’s parents die, she leaves her siblings and everything she knows in China to live with her uncle in Mongolia. She’s unprepared for the level of prejudice she’ll face because of her heritage, but her bravery and stubbornness form a shield she readily dons. An accomplished horse rider and rare beauty, she works alongside her uncle and forges a path as a single woman during a challenging era.

A sweeping novel of historical fiction, Sky of Ashes, Land of Dreams follows these characters through the tumultuous decades following the October Revolution and outbreak of the Russian Civil War, and the Chinese occupation of Mongolia and rise of the Mongolian People’s Party, under whose leadership their nomadic way of life undergoes significant changes. Bound together in a unique love triangle that will span their lives, Bolormaa, Ganbaatar, and Aisin face these changes with courage and sometimes, with fear, and their journey of self-discovery and self-determination amidst the challenges and brutalities of life is an extraordinary tale of hope, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit.

When bookseller Tavish McCaskill stumbles upon an incredibly rare Kabbalistic manuscript penned five hundred years ago by a legendary rabbi, he is convinced that it’s a forgery. How else could it include quantum equations that were developed in the twentieth century?

But closing this matter isn’t as simple as closing a book. Soon, Tavish sets off on a pilgrimage through Switzerland, an esoteric adventure that could mark the beginning of an extraordinary new life—or a desolate and meaningless end. Along the way, Tavish grapples with fellow pilgrims who flicker between friend and foe, the dissolution of his family, and a lingering feeling that he’s living the wrong way, in the wrong time, with the wrong people, in the wrong... universe. Could this enigmatic text hold the answers to even his most unanswerable questions? Erudite and bizarre, poignant and engrossing, Jamieson Findlay’s third novel is a masterful spiritual journey.

For young detective Aggie Morton and her friend Hector, an opportunity to dig up fossils becomes even more thrilling when a corpse washes ashore in this fourth book in the Aggie Morton, Mystery Queen series, inspired by the life of Agatha Christie as a child and her most popular creation, Hercule Poirot. For fans of Enola Holmes.

After an invigorating but not exactly restful trip to a Yorkshire spa during which she survived a near brush with death and foiled a murderer, aspiring writer Aggie Morton and her friend Hector are thrilled to have the opportunity to stay at a camp by the sea and watch real paleontologists at work. The famed husband and wife team of the Blenningham-Crewes are about to become even more famous with the recovery of the fossilized bones of an ichthyosaur from the sea by Lyme Regis.

This news has already caught the attention of an American millionaire, a British museum and a travelling circus owner, who each want the bones for their own collections. Tensions are running high throughout the camp, from the cook, to the collectors, to the Blenningham-Crewes themselves, and become downright dangerous after Aggie and Hector make a discovery of their own- a body on the beach. Not a fossil, but a human body.

Elephant of Sadness, Butterfly of Joy is a collection of twenty-four picture poems that explores the realm of human emotion. Each poem links an animal with an emotion and uses sensory imagery to spark childlike wonder, paint word pictures to ponder, and see the world from a new perspective.

Elephant of Sadness, Butterfly of Joy evokes metaphoric thinking in young readers. From the “Mosquito of Worry” and “Snail of Anticipation” to the “Hummingbird of Happiness” and “Lanternfish of Love,” the poems vary in tone—some light, some dark, some humorous, and some serious. The animals represent a diversity of species, including mammals, reptiles, cephalopods, mollusks, fish, insects, arachnids, and birds.

Whether hopeful, frustrated, surprised, or content, these picture poems help illustrate the emotional spectrum that encompasses the human experience and bridge a gap in understanding so that children are better equipped to label their feelings.

For teachers, parents, and caregivers, the poems open space for discussions about social-emotional learning, which, now more than ever, are needed conversations.

In The Doors Unhinged: Jim Morrison’s Legacy Goes on Trial, New York Times best-selling author and legendary Doors drummer John Densmore offers a powerful exploration of the “greed gene”—that part of the human psyche that propels us toward the accumulation of more and more wealth, even at the expense of our principles, friendships, and the well-being of society. This is the gripping account of the legal battle to control The Doors’s artistic destiny. In it, Densmore looks at the conflict between his bandmates and him as they fought over the right to use The Doors’s name, revealing the ways in which this struggle mirrored and reflected a much larger societal issue: that no amount of money seems to be enough for even the wealthiest people.

In recent years, artists ranging from Bob Dylan to Stevie Nicks have sold their songs or recording rights for astronomical amounts of money—Bruce Springsteen did so to the tune of a reported $500+ million. Conversely, Patti Smith wrote in Just Kids: “We feared that the music which had given us sustenance was in danger of spiritual starvation. We feared it losing its sense of purpose, we feared it falling into fattened hands.”

The Doors continue to attract new generations of fans, with more than one hundred million albums sold worldwide and counting, and nearly twenty million followers on the band’s social media accounts. As such, Densmore occupies a rarified space in popular culture. He is beloved by artists across the decades for his fierce, uncompromising dedication to art. His writing consistently earns accolades and has appeared in a range of publications such as the Los Angeles Times and Rolling Stone. As his friend and American novelist Tom Robbins recently advised him, “If you keep writing like this, I’ll have to get a drum set.”

Series: Akashic Noir

From the editor’s introduction: “When you move through the streets of Jerusalem today, you will notice that history surrounds you from all sides. You hear Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, recited by the muezzin from the Dome of the Rock; you hear the bells of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where the Christians pray, accompanied by the voices of the Jewish worshippers at the Wailing Wall. You are filled with awe and stand helpless to do anything except feel both joy and sadness at the same time. Your feelings mingle, your thoughts get confused, and you peer at the sky waiting for God’s mercy and relief... The stories here are varied, and I did not interfere with the writers’ content. I asked them to portray the city of Jerusalem as they live it, as they feel it, as they appreciate it, as they fear it, as they want it to be, and as they imagine it in the past, the present, and the future... And now we put the black box in your hands! Kindly open it to reveal the secrets of Jerusalem and its people, who wake up to the sound of a forgotten rooster from a previous era to declare the beginning of a new dawn, so that life will not stop recording its new diary entries.”

Featuring brand-new stories by: Nuzha Abu Ghosh, Ibrahim Jouhar, Osama Alaysa, Rahaf al-Sa’ad, Ziad Khadash, Mahmoud Shukair, Iyad Shamasnah, Rafiqa Othman, Dima al-Samman, Majid Abu Ghosh, Muhammad Shuraim, Jameel al-Salhout, and Nuzha al-Ramlawi.

Translated from Arabic by: Roger Allen, Marilyn Booth, Catherine Cobham, Raphael Cormack, Sawad Hussain, Dr. Nazih Kassis, Nancy Roberts, and Max Weiss.

East Jerusalem Noir is being published simultaneously with West Jerusalem Noir, edited by Maayan Eitan. The companion volume explores the city with brand-new stories by Israeli authors.

In a twisty, claustrophobic suburban suspense novel for fans of Ruth Ware and Liane Moriarty, the aftermath of a murder in a quiet coastal New England town reveals a web of dark secrets among friends...

Monreith, Massachusetts, was once a small community of whalers and farmers. These days it’s a well-to-do town filled with commuters drawn to its rugged coastline and country roads. A peaceful, predictable place—until popular restaurateur Laurel Thibodeau is found brutally murdered in her own home. Suspicion naturally falls on Laurel’s husband, Simon, who had gambling debts that only her life insurance policy could fix. But there are other rumors too...

Among the group of six friends gathered for Alice Stone’s fortieth birthday, theories abound concerning Laurel’s death. Max Barbosa, police chief, has heard plenty of them, as has his longtime friend, Unitarian minister Georgia Fitzhugh. Local psychiatrist Farley Drake is privy to even more, gleaning snippets of gossip and information from his patients while closely guarding his own past.

But maybe everyone in Monreith has something to hide. Because before this late-summer evening has come to a close, one of these six will be dead. And as jealousy, revenge, adultery, and greed converge, the question becomes not who among these friends might be capable of such a thing, but—who isn’t?

Series: Akashic Noir

From the editor’s introduction: “This anthology offers a fictional tour of Jerusalem, this time through the lens of the noir genre. Not all the stories in this book include a detective, a femme fatale, or a dead body. In fact, a significant number of the writers chose to avoid these genre staples. And yet the stories—each taking place in a different part of the city—sketch a dark, imagined map of the city, where religious mystery dwells alongside the quotidian, claustrophobic hubbub of the Central Bus Station... The stories included in West Jerusalem Noir could not have taken place anywhere else. They reflect national, religious, and socioeconomic tensions inherent to the city and sketch an image of a concrete, contemporary, and complicated Jerusalem.”

Featuring brand-new stories by: Yiftach Ashkenazi, Ilana Bernstein, Emanuel Yitzhak Levi and Guli Dolev-Hashiloni, Liat Elkayam, Assaf Schurr, Yardenne Greenspan, Ilay Rowner, Zohar Elmakias, Ilan Rubin Fields, Nano Shabtai, Yaara Shehori, Tafat Hacohen-Bick, Nadav Lapid, Tehila Hakimi, and Oded Wolkstein.

West Jerusalem Noir is being published simultaneously with East Jerusalem Noir, edited by Rawya Jarjoura Burbara. The companion volume explores the city with brand-new stories by Palestinian authors.

"Wild Grace is Chelan Harkin's most moving collection of poetry yet... These poems are deeply nourishing. It's impossible to read them without feeling something long dormant stir inside you." —Eric Weiner New York Times Best-selling author of The Geography of Bliss

"There's a Vedic saying: 'Thy gifts, my Lord, I surrender to Thee.' Chelan has indeed received a Divine gift. I don't think ordinary human intelligence could express such depth in words.." —Rick Archer, host of podcast Buddha at the Gas Pump: Conversations with "Ordinary" Spiritually Awakening People

In Wild Grace, Chelan Harkin uses ecstatic poetry to redefine our relationship with the divine. She targets a tipping point happening in the souls of many that shifts a conceptual relationship with God into a genuine, direct, and satisfying experience. These are visions of the present, speaking into the future. They are openings of the heart and awe-filled possibilities for a life of honesty and joy.

I am Lady Ramillia Winmoore, daughter of the very late Earl of Brooksberry, or I was lifetimes ago. I am an immortal, and this is my story. Do what you will with it, but I must warn you: this tale is not for the faint of heart. Highborn Victorian Lady that I was, my life was one of violence and cruelty.

Lady Ramillia Winmoore has suffered gaps in her memory her entire life. This darkness has proven to be a blessing until the day she awakens strapped to an examination table at the West Freeman Asylum for Lunatics. Imprisoned for the gruesome murder of her parents, she is forced to endure years of torture until salvation arrives in the form of a benefactor named Sir Julian Lawrence. Betrothed to her through an arranged marriage, Julian helps her gain freedom.

But appearances are deceiving and soon Ramillia learns the cost she must pay. The horrors she encounters in his household are far worse than the asylum. When he inducts her into a society of bloodthirsty, cruel immortals, she is forced to join them and accept their way of life.

Armed with talents she doesn’t know she has, Ramillia must break free of a prison she cannot see, kill an enemy who cannot die, and find a daughter who she cannot remember—all with the help of an ally she does not know.

In this chilling gaslight-era Gothic horror novel where paranormal powers are bred and collected, friends and foes are not always what they seem when immortality is at stake.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a novel of extreme gothic horror and contains scenes of graphic violence, physical, mental, and sexual abuse, and may be disturbing to some readers.

In this intriguing spiritual memoir, The Maeve Chronicles author Elizabeth Cunningham traces her dynamic faith journey and its relationship to her writing.

As the daughter of an Episcopal priest, author Elizabeth Cunningham was born into community, sacred story, and the mysteries of prayer. For her, "If a writer is one who writes, then a 'prayer' is one who prays." As such, her praying is dynamic, a dance between many opposites—active vs. contemplative, community vs. individual, human vs. wild—and Cunningham sees the divine as both incarnate and transcendent, an intimate beloved and a vast mystery. When she prays, Cunningham is both audacious and reverent, asking tough questions of God—raging, listening intently, and dancing and singing ecstatically. Her storyteller's imagination opens a path from the known to the unknowable, from despair to wonder.

In this nonfiction debut, Cunningham recounts both her lifelong spiritual quest and her ongoing spiritual questions. Her journey takes her from her childhood church, with its ornate liturgy, to the silence of Quaker meeting; from her ordination as an interfaith minister to an eclectic, earth-centered community where she served as priestess before becoming a hermit, of sorts, making a church of her own backyard.

Candid and passionate, Cunningham's memoir invites readers of all faiths—and doubts!—to explore what it means to live life as a prayer in the beautiful, imperiled world we share.

"One of the most engaging memoirs I've read in ages. The wise and feisty voice I've come to know and love in Elizabeth Cunningham's Maeve Chronicles fills these pages and carried me away. Anyone who has forged an independent path through the luminous moments and deepest shadows of a soul-filled life will recognize their own spiritual adventures reflected here." —Mirabai Starr, God of Love

"Five Wishes ... A travelogue of a family's journey, both literally and figuratively, as they navigate their way through life-changing and life-affirming events. Karin Gertsch has created a family story that immediately welcomes the reader to join them at the kitchen table. Set in a small town in Massachusetts, the tale takes you to the back roads of Sedona and to the castles of Scotland, and lands you right back to home and hearth. This is a heartwarming blend of history, love, and lore, served up with a hot cup of tea and a warm dish of peach cobbler." —Daisy Nell, Author, Songwriter

"I was delighted to spend time with the denizens of Hamlet, a town that changes slowly but is all the more endearing for it. Likewise, as the characters in this book realize they have become stuck in their ways and must force themselves to find new adventures, I couldn't help but be touched by how they approached their problems. Gertsch is a born storyteller and the tales within this book have charm to spare." —Hannah Harlow, Owner, The Book Shop of Beverly Farms

Five Wishes takes place in Hamlet, a New England town. Delbert MacInnes is content to live where he was born and raised. "I'll look out another window if I want a different view," he says. Matilda MacInnes isn't the complaining type; she wants her family to believe she's happy with her life, but for decades she's hidden a big secret, and it wants out! When an unexpected event happens, Matilda discovers—though she is no longer young—that wishes can still come true.

Learn about the creation of every generation of Chevrolet's pony car!

For more than 50 years, the Chevrolet Camaro has been an indelible part of the modern automotive landscape. Since its introduction in 1967, Chevrolet's immensely popular pony car has redefined American automotive styling by setting the bar and then raising it with the introduction of each generation.

How did the Camaro become one of the most celebrated automobiles of all time? What was its origin? What factors contributed to its creation and continued evolution through periods of economic uncertainty? How, when so many other cars have come and gone, has the Camaro survived and flourished?

Automotive historian Scott Kolecki explores those questions in Camaro Concept Cars: Developing Chevrolet's Pony Car, as he introduces the men and women who created Chevrolet's successful sports car. This book looks at the factors that contributed to its evolution through six distinct generations and explores the concept and design prototypes that gave rise to the production models that we know and love today.

This is the ultimate book for anyone who has owned (or dreamed of owning) a Camaro as well as for the countless enthusiasts around the globe who continue to celebrate and share the car's rich heritage with future generations.

Series: West Creek Ranch (1)

Carter went to jail for his younger brother's crime and lost his position as heir to West Creek Ranch. Now that he's out, he's unwilling to hurt his brother by confessing the truth. His only hope for restoring his past privilege is to impress his grandparents by marrying his former flame. But Christa has zero time for men. She's determined to save her disabled father's tannery, and rearranging her life enough for a romance could ruin her plans.

Carter pursues her with swoon-worthy earnestness and convinces her to let him in, but as their trust grows, his secret remains an issue. He can't tell the truth, but if he doesn't do something fast, he will distract her enough to jeopardize her plans, lose his chance to restore himself as heir, and break the heart of a woman as loyal as he is.

Sage Evans loves writing that explores love of different forms. When writing Mad Dash, she started with this quote as inspiration:

"Love is a process, delicate, violent, often terrifying to both persons involved. A process of realizing the truths they can tell each other.

We can count on so few people to go that hard way with us." ~Adrienne Rich

Sometimes he prefers not to hear, but when he wants to connect with the hearing world, he puts on his cochlear implants. How could he explain to his hearing parents what the absence of sound is like? Suddenly he has an idea--the best way he knows how to share this part of him with those he loves.

With whimsical, bright illustrations and lyrical words, Sound Switch Wonder is a sweet and gentle story about sharing and embracing differences.

Learn how to harness the power of taste to lose weight safely and keep it off permanently. It’s actually quite simple: more taste = less weight. Even if you’re happy with your current weight, this book will help you enjoy food and drink more than you ever thought possible.

Your tastebuds will explode with thousands of "pleasurable taste sensations" every time you eat and drink. Thousands of them every single day! Every meal. Every snack. Every coffee break.

Rooted in science and endorsed by experts, learning the "micro habit" of eating less and enjoying taste more is a cornerstone of successful weight loss. It’s easier said than done which is why I wrote this book based on my personal experience. I’ll show you how to make a simple and tiny change in the way you eat and drink, starting with your very next meal.

When food lands on your tastebuds, zillions of "pleasure inducing chemicals and hormones" that your body produces naturally including endorphins, serotonin and dopamine will drive your brain crazy with pleasure! Every second this happens your brain gets this message: yummy that’s good and I’m happy!

You will eat less, feel fuller faster, be better hydrated, improve your digestion and not feel stuffed or bloated. And lose weight if you want to.

This may be the most unusual weight loss book you’ve ever read because there are:

  • No meal plans.
  • No food restrictions.
  • No calorie recommendations.
  • No food lists.
  • No drink restrictions.
  • No pills.
  • No exercises.
  • No recipes (well, just one, my all-time healthiest and sweetest snack ever!)

Read The Taste Bud Diet today and be prepared to enjoy food and drink like never before and be so much healthier as well.

Inspired by true events, The Last Horseman is a gripping story of a Midwestern housewife who secretly devises an epic gambling scheme to save the career of her alienated horse trainer husband—perfect for fans of Secretariat and The Greatest Gambling Story Ever Told!

Eddie Logan was once the nation's leading standardbred horse trainer. Today he's down on his luck, struggling to survive in a world where rigged races and corruption threaten the future of the sport he loves. As Eddie faces mounting financial pressures, he succumbs to the temptation of cheating, the one-and-only time in his career, only to lose everything—except the love and support of his wife, Jean.

Desperate to save the man she loves, Jean cooks up a lucrative—and illegal—betting scheme. With the help of an organized crime boss, she bets on race after race, risking everything in the hopes of winning enough to restore Eddie's reputation and career.

Jean must stay one step ahead of the law while keeping her scheme secret from Eddie, who would put a stop to it, and the horse racing officials, who would ban her and Eddie from the sport for life. As she walks a narrow line, Jean must decide how far she will go to save the one she loves.

Pick an Airport...! is a world-weary senior physiotherapist’s amusing perspective on and condensation of vastly varied, unusual and occasionally somewhat bizarre clinical situations encountered over 25+ years of treating patients around the globe.

They say that truth is often stranger than fiction and variety the spice of life, this short book is a testament to both.

All depictions contained within are based directly upon actual events, some almost unbelievably so, to the degree that even in their ‘watered-down’ state they might test the limits of some readers’ credulity and, with that in mind, many very specific cases have simply been omitted because making them believable (with adherence to rules of confidentiality) would have necessitated ‘dilution’ to a point of banality.

For privacy, respect and to protect (both) the innocent (and ‘guilty’) either the location, date, specific detail or all three of each event (bar one) have been suitably altered to confer anonymity, though the veracity of each and every situation can be attested to and proven if necessary.

Have you ever stared at the ceiling, tired eyes held open by a mind overflowing with thoughts, questions and feelings?

This is the background framing the whole conception of the poetic musings depicted in this book: a global pandemic, a life in a new country, and a moment of both professional and personal disruption. For any chronic overthinker the scenario of imposed, unannounced change, and the sudden awareness of Time is the "perfect” igniting spark to action. And that is how every bad mood, every unsolicited advice, every article, every news, every fear, every disappointment became a vessel for the words start to flow.

The series of poetic musings depicted in Little Things, Complex Matters is an attempt to understand the Whys? behind all the sudden disruption, by answering (or trying to answer) the many burning questions about people, science, nature, love, past, future and how all those things put together form the Big Picture of Life. In the pages inside, the "rant" moments are organized in form of poetry to describe a big picture that is bigger and colorful than ever. And strangely, so is the perception of the details. In this worldly journey to self-awareness every dot connected is a new question to ask, a new theory to analyze, and an opportunity to immerse ourselves in a new gray zone in between that is anything but gray. If you are a overthinker, a curious mind or if you just have the tendency of staring at the ceiling at night with the mind boiling with the most provocative questions, I invite you to do a deep dive in this book.

The path to discover the answers that most comfort one's mind is not easy, make no mistake. But to all future readers, donating their precious time to appreciate the nonnative rants inside, I hope these musings can help you answer some of your own burning questions. One thing is for sure, though. I honestly feel (and hope) that you will leave these pages with tons of additional questions of your own so you can rant away out there as most please your souls.

Flourishing Love is a secular defense of marriage and long-term intimate partnership. It rejects a moral-religious code to govern love lives and instead puts its faith in the human potential for couples to be benevolent, loyal, and forgiving to preserve and enhance their romantic union.

Dr Gnaulati draws on a variety of sources to present the joint emotional upkeep necessary to make an intimate relationship not just satisfactory, but vital, and to illustrate what these lasting bonds look like. The latest science, anecdotes from his own 30-year marriage as well as from his psychotherapy practice, the musings of ancient and contemporary philosophers, and real-life interviews from partners in long-term happy marriages and intimate unions are all used to reveal the secrets to a successful romantic partnership.

The result is a how-to of engaging in attentive and sensitive communication; employing a fairness habit of mind around household chores, childrearing responsibilities, and finances; optimally moving through and beyond conflict; keeping an erotic spark alive; and ethically handling urges to stray outside the couple. A must-read for all those who crave meaning, happiness, and fulfillment in life and need their romantic partnerships to help, not hinder, in this endeavor.

In this collection we may find an understanding of suffering and sacrifice from which we otherwise often turn away in fear - in a type of dark night of the soul - the Beloved who beckons from within the human heart and leads us to the light that enlivens all things.

Rhia is a Courier, a transient messenger who freely travels the land without calling any town or port home. The job suits her, for in a land ruled by the Temple, it is difficult to find your own way, especially when you have a Talent. Rhia's is water, and when she arrives in distant Cerretour to deliver a message, she finds a village wracked with suffering. The well is dry. It hasn't rained. The only person who can save these villagers is missing. At night, a strange creature prowls the prairie. The villagers have a name for it: greyhowler.

Rhia knows it by a different name: the lusus mendace, the predator of lies. It is a monster created by Temple Priests to scare the initiates and acolytes. It knows deceit. It knows fear. It hunts those who harbor lies in their hearts.

Is it hunting her? Is it hunting someone in the village? Is it nothing more than a myth, a tale meant to scare children? All Rhia knows for certain is she may be the only person who can save these people. But doing so means accepting what she swore she would never be...

Sarah Day's debut introduces us to the world of the Couriers—a secondary world fantasy series well suited for fans of Becky Chamber's Monk and Robot series and N. K. Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy.

"Day's debut novella captivates from the very first page; like all the best monster stories, it also explores the monsters inside of us." —Tim Pratt, author of Prison of Sleep

"To Hunt a Holy Man brings to mind the likes of Graham Greene and Brian Moore. Readers will be moved by the depth of characterization and plot which is as intriguing as it is important." -Ron Felber, bestselling author of A Man of Indeterminate Value

Leaving the raw battlefields of Vietnam, To Hunt a Holy Man cuts across the rich cultural landscape of Buddhist Thailand. Its characters are enmeshed in war-born adventure, danger, sexual encounters, and spiritual quests. Both Hunter and Holy Man have everything to win—but someone has to lose.

The Holy Man is a US Army Catholic priest who flees Vietnam. Longing to complete his spiritual journey, he disappears into Thai Buddhist monastic life. The Hunter is a God-hating, lone-wolf antihero. His plan to claim his trophy is thwarted by an alluring Thai policewoman, and a jolting religious experience. He is staggered, but is he redeemed? Or will he claim his prize and bring the priest back to Vietnam in shackles?

Much more than just a hunt, Fletcher skillfully presents the reader with an exotic and fascinating spiritual journey through Southeast Asia. He shows that, 50 years on, there are still powerful lessons to be learned from that infamous war.

To Hunt a Holy Man uses edgy language and noir images, but any flinching by the fainthearted will be salved by the story's redemptive ending. Read this book. A compelling tale, it will beat with the spiritual yearnings of your heart.

A debut young adult coming-of-age book with magic realism elements, Catfish Rolling is perfect for fans of Studio Ghibli films and Laura Ruby's Bone Gap.

There's a catfish under Japan, and when it rolls, the land rises and falls. At least, that's what Sora was told after she lost her mother to an earthquake so powerful that it cracked time itself. Sora and her father are some of the few who still live near the most powerful of these "zones" — the places where time has been irrevocably sped up, or slowed down.

When high school ends, and her best friend leaves for university, Sora finds herself stuck and increasingly alone. She begins secretly conducting her own research, tracking down a time expert in Tokyo. She also feels increasingly conflicted in her quasi-romantic feelings for her best friend — and for the time expert's assistant, a striking and confident girl named Maya, another hafu (half-Japanese, half-non) girl with whom Sora forms an instant bond.

But when Sora's father disappears, she has no choice but to return home and venture deep into the abandoned time zones to find him, and perhaps the catfish itself...

A beautifully unconventional love story.

It's the summer of 2008, and thirty-five-year-old Ursula Tunder, reeling from the breakup of a bad marriage, has abandoned her career as a botanist and moved home to the family farm to start a wholesale garden-plant greenhouse, and, perhaps more importantly, to care for her ailing father, Joe. Her younger brother, Bodie, now that a shoulder injury has ended his NFL career, comes home as well, to try his hand at organic farming. Their land at the edge of a prosperous college town is coveted by developers. Ursula wants to sell the farm to Camas Valley State University, which has promised to create a research facility on the land, but Bodie and his idealistic wife, Fleece, are committed to farming.

Enter Nu, Ursula and Bodie's Vietnamese-American cousin by adoption, and an up-and-coming visual artist. When Nu gets arrested after a fight with a pair of dirt bikers, Joe persuades him to take refuge at the Tunder farm. Nu gets pressed into service helping Bodie with farm chores and taking care of Joe, so Ursula seizes the opportunity to get away from the farm, accepting a temporary job surveying native plants in the Cascades. But when Joe's health plummets and Bodie's finances crash, Ursula abandons her summer job to return home once again.

Facing bankruptcy, Ursula, Bodie, and Nu enlist a ragtag troupe of land-defenders in a festival of resistance in a last-ditch effort to save a way of life that may disappear forever.

Prostitutes and animals could no longer satisfy Peter Kürten’s sexual deviancy. During a burglary of a local tavern, he stumbled upon a nine-year-old girl asleep in her bed. He strangled her, slashed her throat with a pocket knife, and orgasmed upon hearing her blood drip to the floor.

His crimes were halted by World War I and an eight-year prison sentence but he unleashed his urges with a spate of brutal murders in 1929 earning him the nickname "The Düsseldorf Monster".

No one was safe. He committed ferocious attacks, sexual assaults and murder against men, women and children. He used blunt objects, sharp implements or his bare hands, before drinking their blood for sexual satisfaction.

The Monster Within is a chilling account of Peter Kürten, one of the most terrifying serial killers in true crime history. Ryan Green’s riveting narrative draws the reader into the real-live horror experienced by the victims and has all the elements of a classic thriller.

CAUTION: This book contains descriptive accounts of abuse, extreme violence and animal cruelty. If you are sensitive to this material, it might be advisable not to read any further.

Series: Pine Island (2)

From Newbery Honor author Polly Horvath, comes a sequel to her popular middle-grade novel Pine Island Home about orphaned sisters who find a way to make a new family.

Fiona, Marlin, Natasha and Charlie McCready have been adopted by their unlikely guardian, Al, and finally settled into their new home on Pine Island in British Columbia. Fiona is struggling under the weight of trying to keep everything together, not to mention worrying about expenses, while Marlin tries to adjust to her new high school and faces rejections for her cookbook, Thirty Meals a Twelve-Year-Old Could Make and Did!. Natasha is still keeping to herself, but a new interest in the violin reveals hidden talents, while Charlie is dreaming of what kind of dog she would like. It's been an adjustment, but they are loving being with each other and having Al next door.

Then they receive a letter from Mrs. Weatherspoon, who took care of them after their parents died, and she is coming to visit for three months — an inordinate amount of time for a houseguest. Accommodating a fifth person in the tiny house is hard enough, but to their horror, Mrs. Weatherspoon arrives with a companion: her childhood friend, Jo. Jo has opinions about everything — what they should eat, how they should behave — and she doesn't hesitate to express them. And sweet Mrs. Weatherspoon seems to have fallen under her spell. When she and Jo announce that they are going to extend their stay even longer, Fiona and Marlin are beside themselves. Fiona hates rocking the boat, but she is going to have to find the courage to stand up to these grown-up bullies so she and her sisters can have the life they wish to lead.

Raven Rock is a prequel to the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and a Headless Horseman origin story.

1776. Wolfram Kaspar Von Hultz of Hesse-Cassel is about to embark on a perilous journey to fight the American rebels with the Hessian force allied to the British Army. Although a reluctant soldier, he knows his birthright is to fulfill his duty to the Landgraf. Wolfram takes his place in the world under the guidance of his surrogate uncle and mentor, the charming yet calculating Colonel Johann Rahl.

Across the ocean and on the outskirts of Sleepy Hollow, Hulda Aupaumut lives in a cave beneath Raven Rock. Although shunned as a witch by the wary townspeople owing to her Bohemian-Mohican heritage and skill as a healer, Hulda remains to aid and protect those dear to her from the impending doom of war. As violence approaches, Hulda unknowingly discovers mysterious new abilities through her family grimoire from Bohemia, and its connection to the unexplainable power of Raven Rock.

Wolfram and Hulda’s paths draw closer until they become forever entwined in Sleepy Hollow, united in the common goal of protecting the town and seeking revenge against the man who, twenty years earlier, unknowingly changed both of their lives.

Raven Rock exists within the canon of Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, weaving together details from the classic American horror tale, local folklore, and the historical context of the American Revolution.

Series: Stay on the Path (1)

The Cloud Runners live on a patch of grassland between the mountains and the desert. Many years ago, the Goddess created a path through the clouds to bring them here, fleeing death and destruction. With game in the grasslands and woodlands and safe from any enemies, the Cloud Runners prospered.

Now overhunting has killed all the game, and foragers have stripped the woodland clean. It would seem the Goddess has turned her back on them, and as the last tribal treasures are traded away for food, starvation threatens.

Jermyn, a youth of only ten and five years, is fed up with watery stew. Though not a hunter, he has his heart set on a turkey. He finds a path in a patch of mist and follows it to a tiny hunter's paradise.

Secrets about the mist, his family, and his heritage underscore how far his tribe has fallen, who is to blame, and why his talent must remain a secret.

With snow covering the countryside, empty storehouses, and enemies on every side, Jermyn's strange talent is all that stands between the Cloud Runners and extinction.

Series: Systema Paradoxa (18)

There are creatures lurking in our world. Obscure creatures long relegated to myth and legend. They have been sighted by a lucky—or unlucky—few, some have even been photographed, but their existence remains unproven and unrecognized by the scientific community.

These creatures, long thought gone, have somehow survived; creatures from our nightmares haunting the dark places. They swim in our lakes and bays, they soar the night skies, they hunt in the woods. Some are from our past, and some from other worlds, and others have always been with us—watching us, fearing us, hunting us.

These are the cryptids, and Systema Paradoxa tells their tales.

***

Theodore Syn has already led an interesting life full of events best left... unexplained. All he wants now is to put in his time as a detective with the Harbor City Police with nothing much of note going on.

More the fool, he.

When shredded bodies start popping up with bits of them eaten away by something noticeably larger than your average rat, Syn races to solve the case before more bodies hit the morgue.

Only Detective Syn uncovers more than he's prepared for, and no matter which way he turns, the finger of guilt points at someone he knows...

Series: Thieves of Shadow (2)

A dying friend, a terrible bargain, an underwater quest, and dangerous magic... this thrilling adventure picks up right where Children of the Fox leaves off. Fans of twisty, clever stories like The False Prince and Ocean's Eleven will love this newest middle-grade series from Kevin Sands, author of the bestselling Blackthorn Key.

Rule number one: Never mess with magic. Even so, a life-or-death situation calls for Callan and his criminal friends to make a deal with the Eye—the sinister, sentient artifact they stole from a sorcerer. It's Lachlan's life in exchange for a future task, and the gang has no choice but to agree.

But even as Lachlan is resurrected, it's not without cost. Through the Eye, Callan can see a tiny purple stain inside Lachlan's soul, which will eventually consume him. The cure—and their part of the deal—lies with the Dragon's Teeth, a pair of swords with extraordinary powers, and the search for them leads the thieves on a quest that will unravel the mystery of the Eye. Old friends, new betrayals, and an even more daring break-in than the last culminate in a confrontation that will take all the gang's skill and power to resist—or they'll die trying.

Nelligan’s finest 46 poems carefully translated from the original French into English with detailed commentary. Appendix with the original French.

Émile Nelligan, Canada's first truly modern poet, burst upon the scene as a prodigy creating brilliant lyrical poetry in late 19th-century Montréal for three years before suffering, at age 19, a breakdown that left him in a mental asylum for the rest of his life. Nelligan went on to achieve mythic status in Québec - no other poet in all Canada has been the subject of so many biographies, films, novels, plays, and critical appraisals. This volume includes Nelligan's key poems, accompanied by robust commentary covering such topics as the women in Nelligan's life, the nature of his breakdown, and the several controversies surrounding his life and work. This collection of 46 poems, translated from French, has been selected for both poetic and psychological interest.

"In the valley breeze where the moonlight glows

Come all ye blonde belles and brown-haired beaus,

Where the fiddle plays and the woodwind blows,

Dance the villanelle!"

- Villanelle Violin

"A mighty Ship there was, of solid gold 'twas spun,

Its masts touched the sky, it sailed on seas unknown,

While naked Aphrodite, tresses wildly blown,

Reclined along the prow before the blazing sun.

- The Ship of Gold

In a city of wind-swept wharfs and winding alleyways, the haunting memory of a far-off village lingers on in the fable of a mysterious flower which bursts into flames, but never burns.

Crow Dark Dawn interweaves the stories of Morrow, Ghresselle, Fenya and Binnory: vulnerable, complex and cunning, surviving in a liminal city of wind-swept wharfs and winding alleyways, stagnant canals and cold dank cellars – drawing on folklore and myth to create a distinctive dream-like atmosphere.

Longing and loneliness, hunger and disease live cheek by jowl with dancing and revelry, fiddle-playing and puppetry – and the haunting memory of a far-off village, lingering on in the mythic tale of a flower which bursts into flames, but never burns.

In 1897, a young Calabrian peasant named Giuseppe Musolino was sentenced to 21 years of hard labor for a crime he did not commit. However, defying all odds, he orchestrated a daring escape and embarked on a relentless pursuit of those responsible for his wrongful conviction, exacting a chilling and deadly retribution.

Evading capture for nearly three years, he cunningly outmaneuvered a vast manhunt consisting of hundreds of local and regional police, the Carabinieri, and even an Italian Army regiment. His exploits transformed him into a beloved Robin Hood figure among the inhabitants of the Mezzogiorno, the impoverished southern region of Italy. However, to the authorities, he was a cold-blooded murderer who had to be stopped.

Eventually apprehended, the Ministry of Justice relocated his trial 600 miles to the north, from Reggio di Calabria to Lucca, due to its belief that no jury in the south would convict him. The trial captured the attention of newspapers around the world. When Giuseppe Musolino passed away in 1956, half a century after his capture, TIME magazine aptly remarked, "Few adventurers, past or present, have become so legendary in so short a time."

This is the first and only book in English to report the incredible story of Italy's famous "Il Brigante."

Series: Véronique (2)

How does the journey end?

Véronique Clair’s story continues as the Frenchwoman from Burgundy joins two other apprentices on a journey across France to the home of Madame Jeanne du Barry, former mistress to deceased King Louis XV. Motivated by her dream of sewing for the wealthiest women in France, Véronique soon finds that dream side-tracked as she struggles to fit into this new world. Everyone at the Chateau du Barry—from fellow servants to the abusive house manager, the head cook, the arrogant black man they call the Governor of Louveciennes, and the Madame herself—finds a way to remind her of her limited place in society.

With barely a moment to sew there is somehow plenty time for regret. Was this new chapter worth sacrificing her parents’ peace of mind and a comfortable—if loveless—arranged marriage? Is the Chateau where she’s meant to be or has she, foolishly, made an impetuous decision to upend her life for no good reason?

Set in idyllic Louveciennes, France, come with beloved character Véronique Clair to the land that inspired Monet, Renoir, and Pissarro in this follow-up novel to Véronique’s Journey.

…Sometimes you have to chase the moon to find your destiny.

On the annual Ghost Night when spirits wander, newlyweds Catherine Roxborough and her partner Chance Yang never imagined death would stalk their summery seaside destination.

Excited to meet her husband's family on their honeymoon, Catherine crosses paths with new acquaintances, young and old, as they journey from London to northern coastal China. However, the couple's celebrations are marred when ghosts of the past come back to haunt the Yangs, as three naked dead bodies are discovered in a nearby seaside derelict - three people the honeymooners had only just met.

Was it murder, an act of revenge, or an affair gone wrong? The answer to these questions may hit closer to home than Catherine could ever expect or than Chance is willing to admit. And as the couple chases the clues, the bride realizes that her new husband may have ghastly secrets to hide.

As the mystery unravels and the pair becomes entangled in a decade-old investigation, Catherine faces a dilemma: stand by her partner or expose the truth and implicate a beloved family member. But amidst the turmoil, only one thing remains certain: the path they choose could forever reshape their lives.

Series: Dusk Lords (1)

The hunt has begun. They will find him. And when they do, he will bring down the Empire from within.

The Empire would say the Blooded who ruled the land before them are dead and gone, but those onboard the Oathbreaker know it to be a lie; one look at the captain's ward will tell you that.

Shye is one of them. A Stormborn, Dusk Blooded, Strange... an enemy of the Empire, and he has just blown his crew's cover on imperial docks.

Shye wants to stop hiding, to learn the secrets of the Blooded, and discover what being a Stormborn truly means. The answers to the fading of the Blooded and all Shye's other questions must lay in Mistral, the capital of the Empire, and Shye knows that the bounty hunter dispatched to capture him can take him there.

Dorian just wants freedom. But such a goal is constantly threatened by the demands of their noble father, who wanted a perfect, controllable heir... he got Dorian instead. It is only their reputation that keeps them safe.

The assignment to track down a rumoured Stormborn, a being of legend in tales told to guild children, could destroy that reputation forever if it turns out to be a lie. But, if the rumour is true, Dorian will be untouchable in the eyes of the crown and beyond their father's reach forever. There can be no better coronation gift for the crown prince than a Stormborn.

Five Lords of Dusk is the debut queer fantasy novel by indie author F. Malbeck. Featuring a genderqueer lead and a flintlock fantasy setting, this novel takes place in a world partly inspired by the author's home country of Australia.

Stories about messy emotions, troubled families and damaged personalities. 11th Story Collection.

Over his lifetime Jack Matthews (1925-2013) wrote over 200 stories, many of which were published in literary journals. Although stories varied widely in subject and style, they often could be described as urbane, philosophical, poetic and sardonic.

Stories in Boxes of Time were mostly published between 1965 and 1980; they feature characters who are troubled or unsure of themselves trying to deal with life’s usual disappointments. Stylistically, these stories are polished and carefully written, but they deal with messy emotions, troubled families and damaged personalities. The characters may not be as educated or self-assured as the people in his other collections, but they still manage to figure out interesting things about themselves and the people around them. Stories from this period focus especially on the emotional stresses that separate parents from their children.

This ebook contains 30+ stories by Jack Matthews which have never been collected, making it the author’s largest story collection.

The homefront, summer 1942, Brooklyn, New York.

Six months after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, America was fighting overseas with the Allies in World War II. Maeve O’Shaughnessy’s fight for survival was different. Her three brothers were shipped out and left her with their new detective agency and fifteen-year-old brother to manage. Before the War, Maeve worked as a secretary. She knew nothing about detective agencies. From the start she struggled to make enough money to feed Jimmy and herself. Vic Marino, a no-nonsense ex-cop, showed up and told her he was going to help her make a go of the agency. Maeve vehemently protested but Vic insisted she had no choice.

Against the backdrop of a war many Americans never wanted, more men were drafted and volunteered to serve every day. Those left behind supported the war effort the best they could. As 1942 wore on sacrifices were necessary for the War, while the losses became real and heartbreaking. Thousands of women took up the cause working outside the home. Yet Maeve found herself trapped in circumstances beyond her control.

Vic’s “deal” to help the detective agency survive came at a cost. He took on responsibility for the detective agency along with an angry naïve woman and her teenage brother. The business was sinking and needed to make money fast. They needed a client. One walked in on Vic’s first day in the office. Mrs. Sullivan implored them for help. Her daughter Lucille, a “beautiful angel,” was brutally murdered in an expensive apartment owned by a rich businessman. The police showed no interest in her violent death. Maeve and Vic had no choice. They took the case nobody wanted.

From the mean streets of Brooklyn to Chinatown to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to the Fulton Fish Market to upstate New York, dealing with thugs, colorful characters, and puzzling clues, O’Shaughnessy Investigations, Inc. pursued the baffling case. A neo-noir mystery. Book 1 of 3.

Content Warning: Please be aware this book contains issues of violence, racism and racial slurs (in the context of the times), sexism, pregnancy and childbirth, and abusive language.

Previously published as O'SHAUGHNESSY INVESTIGATIONS, INC. Episodes 1-32 on Kindle Vella.

Julien Allais, a French Catholic, prays for only one thing: to kneel before God in the Holy Land of Jerusalem, far from his home in Constantinople, the capital of the Christian world in AD 1096. Joining the silver-clad Crusaders arriving from the west to free the Holy Land seems like the answer to his prayers.

Young and untrained, Julien is soon captured, abandoned by the knights he had trusted. Despite what he was told, his Muslim captors are not Godless fiends. Athmar, a boy near his own age, is among his captors, and Athmar’s sister Zahra tends to Julien’s wounds. As Julien’s feelings for Zahra and respect for Athmar grow, he questions everything he thought he knew. The Jerusalem they describe is a bustling city ruled by the Turks for the sake of all residents, no matter their faith. It doesn’t need to be freed – it needs to be protected from the Crusaders who will destroy it in the name of their faith.

As Julien and his captors travel to Jerusalem, a forbidden love between Julien and Zahra is born. This love will change them both. Will it have the power to change a world at war?

At the beginning of 2012, in my seventy-second year, I decided to return to Jungian analysis. I felt it was time to explore my fears of aging and dying.

In Dreaming Myself into Old Age, I hope that reflecting on my final years will help me to better understand my maturing process and deepen it. Perhaps, in sharing this progression, my readers will make their own discoveries, as has been true for me whenever I’ve read about someone else’s journey. But I also believe that aging offers its own mysteries for us to uncover, and that is part of my quest as well. Dreaming Myself into Old Age is a memoir set within my lifelong process of self-discovery and the boundless adventure that is life.

Sensitivity is a superpower.

This is the era of emotion: EQ training for employees, empathy in leadership, the Experience Economy of consumers. But how do we access the full potential of creativity, originality, innovation, intuition, flexibility, and inclusiveness that emotions can unlock? Through sensitivity.

Sensitivity is the degree to which we sense and perceive the world. For too long we have seen it as a weakness, especially in business: Elena Amber demonstrates that it is the source of our most authentic strength, and our superpower for the future.

Elena Amber brings her years of research in human experience and psychology, focused particularly on emotional engagement, her international business experience and her profound meditation practice to show how connecting to emotions by embracing sensitivity unlocks our most extraordinary and profound faculties.

Series: Serpents of Serant (1)

I thought I was dead, but my pulse is racing when I see the beautiful, terrifying creature that woke me.

Vera

My family maneuvered me like a worthless pawn, then cast me away. I was supposed to be executed but even that didn’t go right. When I wake up, my whole world is titled on its axis when I lock eyes with a monster.

He’s half snake, half man and somehow he’s the most alluring thing I’ve ever seen. When he touches me I can understand him and he says I’m his mate. But how’s that possible? I’ve never belonged anywhere.

When more of his kind chase us, cast us out, and try to do everything they can to keep us apart. I must fight for what I want, fight to keep the one place where I’m wanted. In the arms of my mate.

Zathar

Cast out by my own Clan, by my very mother the Queen. I am left adrift until a skyship falls from the heavens, carrying with it my mate.

She is curvy and soft, everything I never knew I wanted. She’s perfect, and I will give up anything, climb any mountain, even crawl through the haunted ancestral caves if it means I can keep her. If only she’ll believe me when I swear she’s my heart.

This is a standalone novel, and book one in the Serpents of Serant Series. This steamy sci-fi monster romance features one barbaric outcast Naga Prince, a human woman unwanted by her own kin, and a steamy HEA.

Reviews

"With a solid logical flow and awe-inspiring insight, 2024...Your Year of More: Plan Your Goals and Invest Your Efforts by Noah William Smith tells the secret of what motivates some people to experience life of a higher quality than others."

Quill says: Author Smith's personal experiences excellently confirm that the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty and validity of their imagination. It is a must-read for everyone who wants to understand how success is a result of small efforts that have been repeated often." (5-star review by Feathered Quill Reviews)

"The book covers topics such as self-care, developing an enthusiastic mindset, enhancing your creative thinking, and learning more. Other steps include letting go of your past mistakes, embracing your present self, and setting goals that will help you attain your dreams. The book also deals with our interactions with nature, family, and friends and seeking satisfying and quality moments. Get a copy of this book to discover how to achieve more of what you want." (5-star review by Luwi Nyakansaila for Readers' Favorite)

"Unlike most self-help books, 2024... Your Year of More is short, concise, and to the point. Author Noah William Smith doesn't beat around the bush too much and offers a thorough guide to living a life full of meaning and purpose. Smith emphasizes that letting go of your physical health also negatively impacts your mental health and that investing in yourself is the best way to take a chance on making your life better." (5-star review by Pikasho Deka for Readers' Favorite)

"He divides his book into specific areas that mirror the major aspects millions of individuals struggle with during the rat race for success. What stands out about this book is the way Smith persistently questions your perception of success. You will realize that this is not a one-size-fits-all manual but a strategic approach toward building your goals around specific self-determined milestones. The exercises at the end of each discussion show just how personalized this manual is. Despite its time-specific title it can be reconfigured to take effect at any time, be it a different year or on a daily schedule. There are many self-help books on the market but this offering is on a different level." (5-star review by Essien Asian for Readers' Favorite)

Memories remain foggy about events preceding the disaster. Gravity suddenly reversed, in a swath encircling the globe. Two-thirds of the world’s population fell victim to the cataclysm that followed, as flora, fauna, and loose debris were catapulted into the heavens.

Five hundred years later, the survivors of the inversion event have reclaimed much of what was lost, but the world is a very different place. Some live in the floating cities of the swath. Others remain earthbound on either side of the swath. The divergent factions blame each other, walking a fine line between cooperation and outright declarations of war. Through it all, questions remain about the origin of the swath and its mysterious purpose.

As a child, Valtteri Knox stumbled across the threshold between normal and reverse gravity. He was flung into the sky, and had the misfortune of being saved by the Aerish. Valtteri is an outsider, of no caste and no worth, but it was decided he should be raised by the navy and groomed as a tool to infiltrate the earthbound.

On his first mission as an adult, Valtteri is completely unprepared for what he encounters. He understood what it meant to be a pariah, but no one told him he was also Iridogen, one of those rare individuals with a genetic trait mentioned in fragments of pre-inversion history.

He’s determined to find answers, and expose a plot that could start a global war, but first he’ll need to find a way to survive in a world that doesn’t trust him.

Passover is really the most Zionist holiday on the Jewish calendar. God did not free the Israelite slaves just because they were slaves: God freed the slaves to bring them to the land of Israel. The Chinitz Zion Haggadah commentary, using the traditional text, transforms the Haggadah into one of the most relevant Jewish texts today. We learn the essential core of Zionism in Passover and the importance of modern Israel in the continuing history of the Jewish people.

The message of this Haggadah must never be lost. The Chinitz Zion Haggadah is designed to teach all those at your seder, especially children, what it means to live in a world with a vibrant, strong if embattled Israel, and how to defend Israel from its detractors.

Praise for the book:

“Congratulations to Dr. Marvin Chinitz for writing a unique new Haggadah which we should all make room for on our Seder tables. His mission is to bring the Zionist dream and its current reality in Israel into our Passover discussions where it belongs.” —Joe Lieberman, former United States Senator

“Thanks to Dr. Chinitz, generations to come will learn the essential Pesach story.” — Peter Weintraub, former National Chairman, FIDF

“Will his Haggadah reach the popular fame of the legendary Maxwell House version? Only time will tell, of course, but on its merits, it absolutely should.” — David Harris, CEO, American Jewish Committee 1990–2022

The Chinitz Zion Haggadah will intellectually and emotionally uplift the serious student and inspire readers to protect and contribute to Israel’s aspirational mission of being a light to the world. — Rabbi Avi Weiss, Author

Ember had devoted her life to building love for others. She never counted on Booker knocking her over.

Constructing Love is the first reality show to combine home improvement with romance. Ember Woodhouse can't wait to cast her matchmaking magic while charming America as she designs the interior of an abandoned autumn resort. Harriet Smith is an adorable country bumpkin in desperate need of Ember's help to win the entire show. Everything goes perfectly to plan... until Ember finds herself partnered with the infuriating deadweight that is Mr. Knightley.

Booker Knightley is exhausted with the show, with the producers, with life and particularly with his partner. He thought his construction background would make winning this easy. No one told him he was also expected to woo a woman who drives him mad. Miss Woodhouse is flighty and stubborn, ignoring reality in favor of her delusions of romance. He couldn't care less about love, much less the impossibility of finding it while cameras document his every breath. Booker has his own reasons for being on this show, reasons that are in jeopardy thanks to Miss Woodhouse and the scheming producers.

As the autumn leaves fall and the days grow shorter, Booker and Ember have a choice to make. If Booker doesn't learn to work with her, he'll lose his last opportunity to bring justice to his family. If Ember can't figure out how to agree with him, her fledgling design business will crash before it takes wing. One thing is certain— Miss Woodhouse will never, ever care for Mr. Knightley.

Spectacularly creative and emotionally gripping, The Lost Souls of Guayaquil is an original and thought-provoking novel about life, death, and what defines us in between.

In a clash of beliefs, destinies, and capitalist ambitions, a young woman is torn between fighting beside her oppressed people and staying loyal to her supernatural calling as a healer. An intrepid journalist pushes back against the government's sinister manipulation of the press, even if that means landing a target on his back.  The reluctant souls of the dead, frustrated at the fate of their still-living loved ones, and unwilling to fully pass into the afterlife, seek justice for those they left behind.

This masterful piece of magical realism is intimately tied to class struggle, political violence, and societal inequity, themes that feel timely and relatable to today's readers. The straightforward narration is visceral, personal, and richly layered with cultural detail, bringing scenes and characters to believable life. The depth of detail depicting the spiritual and healing practices found in Ecuador is immersive and fascinating, while the author's intensely journalistic tone will leave jaws dropped with the sheer power of the prose.

This surreal plunge into the past and beyond is difficult to put down – or forget.

Gidi Grinstein was the youngest delegate at the Camp David summit in July 2000 with the participation of President Clinton, Prime Minister Barak, and Chairman Arafat. Serving as secretary of the Israeli delegation and assistant chief negotiator, Gidi wore many hats for the Israeli team, including note taker, writer of policy papers, co-drafter of agreements, junior negotiator, and sometimes just a “fly on the wall.” He was a witness – in person or through the reports of his bosses and colleagues – to almost every development during that historic period.

While many of the stories in this book are personal and took place in 1995-2001 – primarily during the tenures of Barak and Clinton – they also illuminate systemic issues and highlight topics that recurred under prime ministers Ariel Sharon, Ehud Olmert and Binyamin Netanyahu, and US presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump.

“Expands our understanding of the Two-State Solution … highlights its critical importance for the Jewish People.” —Ronald S. Lauder, President of World Jewish Congress

“…A must-read for understanding Israeli-Palestinian Permanent Status…” —Ehud Barak, Prime Minister of Israel, 1999-2001

“Any future Israeli leader will have to read this book.” —Ehud Olmert, Prime Minister of Israel, 2006-2009

“… Single best book on understanding the issues … illuminating new dimensions … essential for future US peace intervention.” —Amb. Dennis Ross, former Special Middle East Coordinator

“…Crucial in comprehending the complexities of a Two-State Solution. Gidi is one of the most esteemed thinkers in our field…” —Noa Tishby, Former Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism

“…Audacious claim that the Oslo Process may bear the seeds of peace.” —Daniel Gordis, Author of Impossible Takes Longer

“…surprised to learn the extent to which our analysis and policies converged on multiple topics...” —The Honorable Jason D. Greenblatt, former White House Envoy to the Middle East

“…A fair representation of the Palestinian perspective … essential read for anyone interested in advancing peace…” —Ghaith Al-Omari, Advisor to the Palestinian Delegation (1999-2005)

“…A fair and lively piece of history. Eloquent and thoughtful.” —Prof. Shlomo Ben-Ami, Israel Minister of Foreign Affairs (2000-2001)

Resonating with tenderness, Half a Cup of Sand and Sky is a moving portrait of one woman’s search for love and belonging cast against a nuanced backdrop of political turmoil.

It is 1977, and the anti-shah protests at Tehran University are intensifying, but Amineh is not like her peers who want a say in the future of their country. She would rather escape to the beautiful literature of another era and her past of rose harvests and Sufi poetry evenings under the desert sky. A chance encounter with an opposition leader and disarmament activist, Farzad, will thrust her into a life she didn’t ask for and didn’t want. Nobody wanted the tyranny that is quickly turning worse than the tyranny it replaced. But maybe Amineh has been looking at her life all wrong—Maybe the thing she is seeking is not in the past at all.

The Stark Beauty of Last Things is set in Montauk, the far reaches of the famed Hamptons, an area under looming threat from a warming climate and overdevelopment. Now outsider Clancy, a thirty-six-year-old claims adjuster scarred by his orphan childhood, has inherited an unexpected legacy: the power to decide the fate of Montauk's last parcel of undeveloped land.

Everyone in town has a stake in the outcome, among them Julienne, an environmentalist and painter fighting to save the landscape that inspires her art; Theresa, a bartender whose trailer park home is jeopardized by coastal erosion; and Molly and Billy, who are struggling to hold onto their property against pressure to sell. When a forest fire breaks out, Clancy comes under suspicion for arson, complicating his efforts to navigate competing agendas for the best uses of the land and to find the healing and home he has always longed for.

Told from multiple points of view, The Stark Beauty of Last Things explores our connection to nature—and what we stand to lose when that connection is severed.

The gripping new book from the author of The Algorithm Will See You Now. Based on the true-life rationing of kidney dialysis in 1960s America, a medical intern in 1992 Seattle tries to leave his painful past behind, only to uncover a shocking truth of thirty years prior and the lasting, generational harm of hidden secrets…

After a co-intern dies by suicide, a grieving Noah Meier commits an accidental error. In a desperate move to save his patient's life, he covertly seeks help from audacious surgical resident Marah Maddox, igniting a bond between them.

When the hospital is suspiciously quick to sweep everything under the rug, Noah turns to his late father's journal for guidance and makes a chilling discovery, all while trying to stay out of the crosshairs of abusive Dr. Rankel, keen to make an example of Noah. Worse, Rankel clearly has it out for Marah as the only woman in her program.

As the hospital's patriarchal power structures, and the truth about his father's past, threaten Noah and Marah's burgeoning relationship, Noah will have to choose: shoulder his father's devastating legacy or create his own daring future.

The latest sensational page-turner from physician-author J.L. Lycette, The Committee Will Kill You Now is a riveting historical suspense about the inner workings of the medical world and the personal struggles of those within it.

A thrilling near-historical drama that exposes the dark side of the medical establishment and a must-read for anyone interested in medicine, ethics, and the human struggle for justice.

I grew up in the 1950s, and my father, "Mac," filled our lives with humor, a love of reading, and the gift of adventure. The first ten years of my life seemed magical. He was my Yoda-dependable, witty, and wise. Then abruptly, Yoda was sidelined when Darth Vader became my stepfather. But Mac never quit being my father ... a mentor, teacher, and role model.

After I retired and he had passed away, I opened a time capsule that contained letters he wrote during WWII, commendations, news articles, and photos. I was stunned. Mac had been among a small group of young pilots trained to fly a new bomber-the B-24 Liberator with the 307th BG, and then the B-29 Superfortress with the 39th BG. Shot down on his first combat mission in Guadalcanal, he and his surviving crew spent three weeks navigating through enemy-infested islands.

This is a story about my father Colonel HG McNeese's firsthand experiences as a young pilot in World War II in the Pacific Theater, and his remarkable 30-year career in the Air Force-as Air Attache in Vietnam, NATO and much more. If you liked Unbroken, you will also like MAC. They both served in the 307th BG.

Mac: The Wind Beneath My Wings is a compelling tale about a remarkable man. It grips the reader with his strength of character and fascinating career. WWII, Korea, and Vietnam veterans, history buffs, military devotees, and students of human nature will be inspired by this account told by his daughter. Mac: The Wind Beneath My Wings, a biography of an extraordinary man, by Sherry Hobbs.

The Dramatic Story of a Pioneering Man, His Mercurial Mind and a Society In Limbo.

Lowell Klessig's posthumously-released story, infused with reflections by his son Lukas, provides an intimate window into one man's life in flux with bipolar disorder. As the author narrates a postwar upbringing and describes the manic-depressive travails of developing his identity, he offers us a view into the turmoil of the times - and of his mind.

Through mania- and danger-filled months fighting for Civil Rights, protesting the Vietnam War and furthering the Conservation Movement, we see the purpose that sustained him. Through darkened panes, we witness the isolation and malaise of depressive winters that nearly took his life. This masterful chronicle allows us to peer into a restless and kinetic existence in one moment and a chasm of fatigue and hopelessness on the next page.

It's a bipolar journey that you won't ever forget.

In October 2016, Lynn Hamilton found herself doubled over a sidewalk experiencing her second anxiety attack.

That was the impact of the threats and subterfuge from work colleagues she once thought she could trust. And her story is by no means unique. Though few of their stories are known, thousands of people experience bullying in the workplace. Fear or retaliation, a desire to forget, or a lack of evidence are just some of the reasons why these stories remain hidden.

Divided into four gripping sections, this memoir delves deep into Hamilton’s harrowing lived experience. From deteriorating trust and collaboration with her manager and coworkers, to the insomnia that then began to cloud her judgement, Hamilton spares no detail in the recount of her torment and abuse.

With courage and help, Hamilton finally chose to speak up.

Would there be a breakthrough?

Blood in the Water is a raw and powerful testament to resilience, highlighting the importance of addressing workplace bullying and the profound lessons that emerge from the depths of adversity.

Imaginative, haunting, and heartwarming—Shanti Hershenson's best book yet!

World-renowned author Dillon Hershkop has everything she wants in life, but getting there hasn’t been easy. Now thirty years old, she has achieved almost everything she dreamed of as a young girl: A dazzling career, a devoted fan base, and a picture-perfect family—but despite all of this, she is also painstakingly bored.

That is why, when Dillon receives the opportunity to become the test subject for a time-traveling experiment hosted by JPL’s brand new Center for Experimental Science, she seizes the opportunity to explore La Cañada—and the places she grew up around—without any immediate reservations. In exchange, she can write a brand new memoir both about time travel and the nearly forgotten experiences that shaped her into the talented woman she is today. That is, if she returns.

Dillon is soon thrown head-first as an adult spectator into the complicated world of her ten-year-old self—fondly nicknamed Goose—from her love of helicopters, writing, and all things Elton John, to her unreceptive fourth-grade teacher, Ms. Vincent, her sourly judgemental classmates, and the missed opportunities of a fourth-grade writer with a smothered voice.

As she observes the childhood she does not entirely remember, she begins to realize that there are reasons for the holes in her memories—things she must not remember, because if she does, it may become impossible to stand back and watch the oil of her bottled-up trauma be poured into a fire from a distance. And if she goes against the direct orders of the laboratory, the effects of tampering with a nearly unknown science may permanently disrupt the fabrics of time, space, and Dillon’s existence.

From the teenage author of You Won’t Know Her Name, Helipads in Heaven is a deep and heartwarming adventure of time travel, childhood ambitions, and at the core, a love letter to unique children and those who dare to dream.

In a comical fashion, this absurdist novella satirizes both human nature and the conventions of the fantasy genre. Through humor, it explores the ridiculousness of human behavior, while parodying the familiar tropes and clichés commonly found in fantasy and science fiction literature.

When alien spacecraft descended upon medieval England, the entire realm was thrown into a state of unparalleled chaos and horror. Despite the inherently peaceful intentions of the aliens, their arrival sent shockwaves of fear and deep-seated suspicion throughout the land. The fear was so profound that people readily embraced the notion that these creatures were nothing less than malevolent demons. During their stay in the isolated forests of Yorkshire, the aliens experienced a multitude of enthralling adventures, infused with dark humor and an abundance of funny predicaments, all while eagerly anticipating the arrival of their rescue spacecraft.

This memoir is lovingly dedicated to fellow mums who have experienced the profound grief and heartbreak of infant loss.

There is only one baby who fits so perfectly into the empty arms of this mother. And this mother feels terribly alone.

There is a magical bridge for special babies like you. A bridge, far off into the clear, crystal night's sky. Into the warm purple and pink hues of a sunrise, and into the turquoise depths of the ocean. This bridge takes you to where my heart needs to believe you are. Somewhere safe. I cannot cross that bridge with you even though I am desperate to stay by your side. Every mother stands at the base of this bridge, gazing longingly at our angel babies' fading footprints. A gentle arm reaches over to hug and remind me that we loss mums, stand together.

We’ve all heard the saying, “horses are a lot of work.” But if dealing with your horse’s attitude is taking up all of your time, energy, and money, it might be time to take a closer look at what’s going on.

Author Meredith Hill has spent over 30 years observing and learning about horses in a variety of settings. From high-stress show barns to local rescues, she strives to achieve what she calls a “working relationship” of mutual respect with every horse she works with.

Sharing her experiences and heart-warming stories about her own horses, Hill provides readers with a wealth of information, including:

  • How horses and their wild instincts evolved
  • How to determine if a horse is misbehaving or not feeling well
  • How to assess your horse’s behavior, including common behavioral issues
  • How to read your horse’s body language and facial expressions
  • How professionals can help us and our horses on the path to behaving well and demonstrating good manners

Whether you’re a new horse owner, a beginner to all things equine, or a seasoned equestrian who’s facing a new problem horse, Did I Really Mean to Buy a Horse? What to Do When Your Horse Is Acting Like a Monster, and When (and How) to Call for Help is the ultimate resource for understanding what your horse is trying to tell you. Communicating with a horse is learning a new language, as Ms. Hill points out, and learning to “speak horse” can take some patience and assistance.

Consider Did I Really Mean to Buy a Horse? What to Do When Your Horse Is Acting Like a Monster, and When (and How) to Call for Help if your horse has a bad reputation due to:

  • Cribbing
  • Weaving
  • Kicking
  • Biting
  • Spooking
  • Any of the endlessly creative bad habits horses can have

Combining Why Does My Horse Act Like This: Understanding Equine Behavior in your New Horse and The Well-Mannered Horse: Developing an Ideal Equine Buddy, this book offers page after page of advice, words of wisdom, and patient encouragement from professional horsewoman Meredith Hill. You’ll also find a plethora of resources to help you:

  • Find a trainer, veterinarian, farrier, or behaviorist to help you
  • Make good decisions regarding your horse’s behavior
  • Feel less intimidated and afraid of your horse’s attitude
  • Understand why your horse may be acting up or being rude
  • And ultimately, strengthen your relationship with your horse

Training horses isn’t for everyone, but Meredith Hill helps new riders and experienced equestrians alike learn more about their horse in Did I Really Mean to Buy a Horse? What to Do When Your Horse Is Acting Like a Monster, and When (and How) to Call for Help.
