The words are still very meaningful but it seems misleading to recognize this as a “new” book. Perhaps it has a new format or publishing company but I believe it’s basically the same as the 2013 version. ( )This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Steven McFadden's curation skills and intimate research experience comes out in these quick but powerful quotes. On first glance, I was quite a bit nervous to read Native Knowings because I thought the risk for appropriation was very high and I didn't really feel like reading another book by someone who has "discovered" teachings or beliefs of another culture that they feel we "just need to" discover for ourselves. I was so very happy, though, when I read in the introduction the following: "The passages and quotations in this book call upon us not to imitate or to try in some false or awkward way to become natives peoples, but rather simply to listen, to respect the circle of life of which we are part, to be ourselves, and to endeavor to become the best human beings we possible can." Mad respect for Mr. McFadden. Thank you for a truly inspiring piece of work. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. The words of the wise ones compiled in one place to share similar messages. Various people from different tribes and different times. Overall, the theme is to take care of each other as well as Mother Earth. It emphasizes the importance of causing no harm while focusing on oneness. Being a little over sixty pages, this was a quick read and well worth it. no reviews | add a review
