A surprising good read, a book that I never thought I would love as well as like. I loved that the Historian taught the thief a good lesson when she stole the Historian's pouches of essence and that she could outrun her because she thought that she knew the city better. Book one had me rapidly reading and I forgot that this was a trilogy. no reviews | add a review

Aeda, a gifted Thief in the Grey Society, is tasked with stealing from the Historian Gieral. But the chance encounter sends her across the Known Lands, where she discovers unexpected kindness and terrible beasts alike. Drawn into a mystery of missing Historians, Aeda must use all her skills to find her place in the world and aid in uncovering the cause behind the disappearances. The Thief and the Historian is a thrilling young adult fantasy, the first in the Runetree Chronicles series, filled with action, heart, and courage. No library descriptions found. |

The only negative I encountered (and this goes more toward my preferences than the author's ability) was that I felt the character-building could have been stronger. And even that was somewhat remedied toward the end of the book, as we see Aeda begin to assert herself and find her strength.
I look forward to the next volume of this series. ( )
