Fiction.
I read this book approximately 3-4 years ago, and while I'm almost certain it was published sometime after 2000, I might be wrong about that. I have no information on the title or author.
Basic outline: A girl and her dad live on a ship, called the Cormorant, making a living as smugglers. After being caught(?), the girl is forced by the authorities to smuggle a crate to a different location under threat of ship impoundment, but she must not open the crate under any circumstances. It's later revealed that the crate contains the heir to the throne (preserved in stasis via shadow magic), and that the actual monarch was deposed via coup.
Discovered it in Virginia.
It wasn't that long a book, maybe 300 pages?
FOUND.
