I believe this western romance style novel was from early 1990s. Not graphic. Probably set in 1870's or so. A young woman is terrified and flees from abusive boyfriend/fiancee. Cuts her blonde hair short, disguises herself as young male and joins cattle drive. Gave her name as Gruber. Conflict with guy in charge of cattle drive. He finally discovers she's a female, of course.
