Book cover TYPE (hardcover, paperback, etc)

Is there a place on the book info page where it says what type of cover it has? I am trading out some of my paperbacks for hardbacks, but if I don't know which one I already have, I get frustrated while I'm in the book store, because I don't know whether I should purchase a book based on its cover. Help?!

It's under media! Book > Paper Book > Hardcover or Book > Paper Book > Paperback.

However, that data is not necessarily reliable unless you've checked it.

I have encountered the same problem in bookstore, and am still trying to decide how to solve it. I've started adding tags to my hardcovers. I might also (or instead) want a different collection that I could put all my hardcovers in, and one for paperbacks.

For tags I add either PB or DJ for paperbacks and dust jackets.

On older books I upload images of my copies.

These help when I am shopping on a road trip.

I am a little confused - what is wrong with choosing hardcover or paperback in the ‘Media’ field?
That is the one I use to keep track of my books

Nothing is wrong with that, but it's a fairly recent feature, so people have developed other ways of doing it. As >3 lorax: points out, if you haven't actually checked each entry, you can'tcount on the media field being accurate.

>7 MarthaJeanne: In other words, setting it yourself works fine, but for some sources, it comes pre-set, and that value can be incorrect. And it can be hard to tell at a glance whether the value for a given book was imported from the source or set by yourself.

I've never seen an entry from source that specifies paperback or hardcover, just says paper book, so it's a given that those who want this data to be specific need to edit their entries. Even if an occasional source specifies, the majority will not. As a rule, they stop at media type - paper book, ebook, audio book and such, without going into specific format

>9 SandraArdnas: I'm quite sure Amazon does that. Or did.

>10 anglemark: Yep, just checked, at least paperback vs hardcover. But libraries don't.

Also, some of the other methods are easier to see in the App while in the bookstore.

I will look into these options. Thank you.
