Hi there and happy new one! Wishing you the best on the Covid front as I sit in the ER with my Hubby. He's been fighting it for four days and needs a little help. I have it too, but am asymptomatic. The fun never stops.

>21 DianaNL: Did you take something positive from the book, Diana?

My favourite time of the year with Le Tour starting. The Yates twins did GB proud but I am always pleased to see the French do well and they could do with some success right now.

24DianaNL
Jul 3, 5:42 am

>23 PaulCranswick: Positive in the book for me was its originality, Paul.

Yes, Le Tour!! The Yates twins started very well and your French wish has come true with Victor Lafay's win yesterday.

This book about a woman with dementia made a big impression on me. I work with people with dementia and I think the author did a great job. It's sad, but highly recommended.

Diana, Vingegaard and Pogacar are tearing up the Tourmalet just now. I have ridden it from both sides and I think that side is the tougher but they made it seem like a walk in the park!

Same two fellows lighting it up too, Diana. Marvellous stuff. I was nostalgic too as the Tour returned to Puy de Dome.

In 1985, Joop Zoetemelk was the last Dutch world champion in cycling.

Today, Mathieu van der Poel did an amazing job in winning the championship! :-)

Aug 6, 4:16 pm

Hi Diana my dear, it was a good race after the demonstration, Bettiol had too far to go on his own but then Mathieu went straight past and no one followed, i did expect Van Aert to go after him.

When he fell at that corner i did wonder if he would be able to get up quickly or would Van Aert and the other two suddenly appear. He was mad and that increased his effort and determination to win and from that moment, his lead just increased with every pedal turn. A very deserved win for the young man.

>38 DianaNL: And he did it in an amazing way, going on after his fall and still a large gap between him and number 2.

51PaulCranswick
Sep 11, 5:52 am

>50 DianaNL: Hahaha I can just imagine that, Diana. I am currently watching the Vuelta and it has been conquered by the Jumbo Visma team and I just feel that the parcours is simply too tough this year.

52DianaNL
Sep 11, 6:25 am

> Maybe the parcours is too tough, Paul, I don't know. The Jumbo Visma team is on its way to win all three big tours this year, they have a very strong team again.

53PaulCranswick
Sep 11, 6:42 am

>52 DianaNL: They have an impressive roster, Diana. It will be interesting to see whether or not the two obvious leaders of the team attack the race leader and normal lieutenant currently in the leader's Red Jersey.

54DianaNL
Sep 11, 7:07 am

>53 PaulCranswick: I don't know what will happen, Paul. I think it would be a perfect gift to Sep Kuss, who works so hard for them in nearly every big tour.

55PaulCranswick
Sep 11, 7:17 am

>54 DianaNL: I am conflicted and I guess that they will all be too. I would want to win the Grand Tour because I was the best in that race not because my teammates allowed me the win. Not saying that that is the case though. On the other hand it would be a just reward for his excellent support elsewhere.

62DianaNL
Sep 23, 4:23 am

>61 PaulCranswick: Fortunately, he didn't mean to stop cycling, Paul, but he has no ambition to win a Grand Tour ever again.

This year's Tour and Vuelta were both great fun to watch. I watched the Giro too, obviously, but in my opinion that one was not as much fun as the other two this year.
