Hi there and happy new one! Wishing you the best on the Covid front as I sit in the ER with my Hubby. He's been fighting it for four days and needs a little help. I have it too, but am asymptomatic. The fun never stops.
10DianaNL
Thank you, Reba, Anita, Susan, Jim, John and Kim!
>9 Berly: Kim, that must have been scary. I hope your Hubby is better now xx

>19 PaulCranswick: My health is not okay, Paul, and I am not feeling good. But thank you for asking, that's sweet xx

>21 DianaNL: Did you take something positive from the book, Diana?
My favourite time of the year with Le Tour starting. The Yates twins did GB proud but I am always pleased to see the French do well and they could do with some success right now.

>23 PaulCranswick: Positive in the book for me was its originality, Paul.
Yes, Le Tour!! The Yates twins started very well and your French wish has come true with Victor Lafay's win yesterday.

40. Alice Laplante - Turn of Mind
This book about a woman with dementia made a big impression on me. I work with people with dementia and I think the author did a great job. It's sad, but highly recommended.

Diana, Vingegaard and Pogacar are tearing up the Tourmalet just now. I have ridden it from both sides and I think that side is the tougher but they made it seem like a walk in the park!
28DianaNL
>27 PaulCranswick: They are in! I'm glad JumboVisma is so strong.
30PaulCranswick
Same two fellows lighting it up too, Diana. Marvellous stuff. I was nostalgic too as the Tour returned to Puy de Dome.

>30 PaulCranswick: Another day in the mountains starts in 30 minutes. Happy watching, Paul!

In 1985, Joop Zoetemelk was the last Dutch world champion in cycling.
Today, Mathieu van der Poel did an amazing job in winning the championship! :-)

Hi Diana my dear, it was a good race after the demonstration, Bettiol had too far to go on his own but then Mathieu went straight past and no one followed, i did expect Van Aert to go after him.
When he fell at that corner i did wonder if he would be able to get up quickly or would Van Aert and the other two suddenly appear. He was mad and that increased his effort and determination to win and from that moment, his lead just increased with every pedal turn. A very deserved win for the young man.

>38 DianaNL: And he did it in an amazing way, going on after his fall and still a large gap between him and number 2.

50. Sally Hayden - My fourth time, we drowned: seeking refuge on the world's deadliest migration route
50DianaNL
>49 PaulCranswick: Me too, Paul. My dog seemed a bit concerned about me, shouting at the television ;-)
51PaulCranswick
>50 DianaNL: Hahaha I can just imagine that, Diana. I am currently watching the Vuelta and it has been conquered by the Jumbo Visma team and I just feel that the parcours is simply too tough this year.
52DianaNL
> Maybe the parcours is too tough, Paul, I don't know. The Jumbo Visma team is on its way to win all three big tours this year, they have a very strong team again.
53PaulCranswick
>52 DianaNL: They have an impressive roster, Diana. It will be interesting to see whether or not the two obvious leaders of the team attack the race leader and normal lieutenant currently in the leader's Red Jersey.
54DianaNL
>53 PaulCranswick: I don't know what will happen, Paul. I think it would be a perfect gift to Sep Kuss, who works so hard for them in nearly every big tour.
55PaulCranswick
>54 DianaNL: I am conflicted and I guess that they will all be too. I would want to win the Grand Tour because I was the best in that race not because my teammates allowed me the win. Not saying that that is the case though. On the other hand it would be a just reward for his excellent support elsewhere.
56DianaNL
>55 PaulCranswick: We agree, and we'll see who will be first xx
58PaulCranswick
>56 DianaNL: Looks almost certain to be Kuss so the two of them supported rather than thwarted him.
Have a great weekend.

>58 PaulCranswick: It's a beautiful result, isn't it? He already told his wife that he has no ambition to do this ever again :-)

>58 PaulCranswick: Hahaha I remember cycling up to Superbagneres in the Pyrenees 35 years ago and saying the same thing, Diana. I never did but I hope that he will not hold to his word - this year's Vuelta was, as usual, great fun to watch.
62DianaNL
>61 PaulCranswick: Fortunately, he didn't mean to stop cycling, Paul, but he has no ambition to win a Grand Tour ever again.
This year's Tour and Vuelta were both great fun to watch. I watched the Giro too, obviously, but in my opinion that one was not as much fun as the other two this year.

>62 DianaNL: I have always liked the Vuelta more than the Giro but some of the courses for the latter recently have been brutal.

>65 DianaNL: You got an ARC? It's coming into my library (one of my libraries) mid-October - I've put it on hold. I grew up with a Compact OED, love stories about it and dictionaries in general.
67DianaNL
>66 jjmcgaffey: No, I've read it on the ereader, in the Netherlands it's already available. I loved the stories and I think you're in for a treat!
