Finding a mystery that you have not yet read is akin to finding a gem. However, even if you have read many of the stories before, and know the result, it is amazing how Christie involves so many sub-plots and potential suspects (e.g. Nemsis). Although there are many authors who have tried to replicate his style and last page answers, only one in my opinion comes even close, namely Margaret Truman. This book is a great compilation of Miss Marple mysteries. The last mystery, "The Body in the Library" is a prequel of sorts to the first mystery, "The Mirror Crack'd". The middle three mysteries are also connected in certain ways and seem to follow each other in order. I enjoyed that. Miss Marple is really amazing, and shows us that just because you get older doesn't mean you have to sit around doing nothing! Her brain is sharper than most 20 year olds! Still working on this book. I'm currently reading "A Caribbean Mystery". Really good so far! no reviews | add a review
The Mirror Crack'd: "Marina Gregg is a famous, temperamental, much-loved movie star who has come to settle down in the village of St. Mary Mead. Heather Badcock is an ordinary and annoying woman. One minute, silly Heather had been babbling on at her movie idol, the glamorous Marina Gregg. The next, Heather suffered a massive seizure, poisoned by a deadly cocktail. It seems likely that the cocktail was intended for the beautiful actress. But while the police fumble to find clues, Miss Marple begins to ask her own questions and discovers dark secrets in Marina's past--secrets which link her to other seemingly innocent citizens of St. Mary Mead. Miss Marple knows beyond doubt that even the most peaceful village can harbor intrigue--and murder.
A Caribbean Mystery: Miss Marple's Caribbean vacation is interrupted when she becomes intrigued by a soldier's tale of a murderer whom he once knew.
Nemesis: When Jane Marple receives an unusual letter from Jason Rafiel, a week after his death, she is led into a web of suspense.
What Mrs. McGillicuddy Saw!: Through the window of her first class coach, Mrs. McGillicuddy sees a woman being strangled in a passing train. No one believes her except her good friend Miss Marple. Now the inimitable sleuth must find a body and match wits with a killer.
The Body in the Library: Miss Marple refuses to take matters at face value when the body of a young woman is found in the Colonel's library. No library descriptions found. |

Miss Marple is an absolutely fascinating character and Agatha Christie manages to bring small town/village life to full understanding through her personification. This first of Miss Marple's adventures/investigations introduces not only the lady herself, but other residents of St. Mary Mead. ( )
